Letter From the Superintendent

August 27, 2021

Cardinals,

We are off and running! The school year has officially begun and we have close to three thousand young people coming through the doors of our schools each and every day. The excitement brought on by the start of the school year is definitely in the air. There are many great things going on and we are working very hard to make sure we provide our students with countless quality learning opportunities while still looking out for the health and well-being of everyone.

First and foremost, we are encouraging everyone to monitor your health and the health of your children. If you are feeling ill, please stay at home. There is guidance on the length of time to stay at home on a document provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health. If you have any questions on this guidance, please contact one of our school nurses and they can help. This is really one of the most important ways to help prevent the spread of illness.

The Newton Community School District will also be continuing our thorough cleaning regimen in our buildings. Desks and other high touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected regularly in order to help mitigate the spread of illness in schools. These efforts and others are laid out in our Return to Learn Plan and were highlighted in my August 18, 2021 letter sent to each family regarding guidelines for returning to school.

If you are not receiving communications from the Newton Community School District through Infinite Campus Messenger, please contact the central office at 641.792.5809 and we will make sure to get you set up to receive notifications. We want to keep you informed on all of the important news in our District.

We are excited to have you as a part of our Cardinal family again this year and for some we are thrilled to have you joining our community. We want to make this year the best year of your students’ educational experience.

Yours truly,

Tom Messinger, Superintendent

Newton Community School District
