The Newton Community School District (NCSD) is proud to offer families top-notch and best educational choices in Iowa. 

We serve approximately 3,000 students (PreK - 12th Grades) enrolled in our seven schools:
Aurora Heights (K - 4)
Emerson Hough (K - 4)
Thomas Jefferson (PreK - 4)
Woodrow Wilson (K - 4)
Berg Middle School (5 - 8)
Newton Senior High School (9 - 12)

On this page, you will find everything you need to enroll and register your child into the Newton Community School District. 

2020-2021 Registration Instructions (New or Returning Students)

Families new to the Newton Community School District, or returning after being enrolled in another district, will need to come to the District Office to complete the registration process.  Our District Office is located at the EJH Beard Administration Center - 1302 First Avenue West, Newton, Iowa.    

This process includes filling out the online registration form and providing the following documentation:

  1. Birth Certificate for each student being enrolled
  2. Proof of residency (utility bill, mortgage, lease or rental agreement)
  3. Immunization records for each student being enrolled
  4. Photo ID for parent/guardian registering student(s)

Since our district is currently closed to the public, due to COVID-19, please contact Melinda Worthington, District Registrar, about registering new students.  She will take student and family information and add it to a database of new families.  As soon as our offices are able to open, we will contact families to set up an appointment to register.

Newton Community Preschool (2021 - 2022)

The Newton Community Preschool is located at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School (112 Thomas Jefferson Drive).  We offer programming for 3 and 4-year-old students in morning or afternoon sessions.  Our staff takes pride in working hard to meet the needs of our preschool families!  

If your child will be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 15, 2021 please complete and return an application (with required documents) to the Central Registrar's Office.

3 YEAR OLD PROGRAM - Application

  • Students must be 3 years old on or before September 15, 2021
  • There is a monthly tuition fee of $25.00 for the 3 year old program 
  • The program capacity is approximately 20 spots, which will be awarded via a lottery system 
  • Completed applications received by 3:30 PM on March 1, 2021 will be reviewed together, with a lottery system used if program capacity is reached
  • Lottery system:  All applications received by 3:30 PM on March 1, 2021 will be given a number.  We will draw 20 numbers to determine which applicants are awarded a spot.
  • Families will be notified of a decision via email by March 12, 2021. Information for completing online registration (Infinite Campus) will be provided upon acceptance.  
  • The remainder of the applications (above program capacity), and completed applications received after March 1, 2021 will be placed on a waiting list


4 YEAR OLD PROGRAM - Application

  • Students must be 4 years old on or before September 15, 2021
  • There is no monthly tuition fee for the 4 year old program (it is funded by the State of Iowa)
  • The back of the application needs to be completed, or the application will not be considered (we are a grant based program)
  • Completed applications received by 3:30 PM on March 1, 2021 will be reviewed together, with preference given based on family income
  • Families will be notified of a decision via email by March 12, 2021.  Information for completing online registration (Infinite Campus) will be provided upon acceptance.
  • Completed applications received after March 1, 2021 will be reviewed individually, based on program capacity.  Families will be notified of a decision via email within two weeks.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The following five documents must be submitted in order for an application to be considered complete.

  • 2021-2022 preschool application
  • proof of residency (driver's license or utility bill with current address)
  • a current immunization record
  • a copy of your child's birth certificate
  • documentation of health insurance for your child (health insurance card with child's name)

Please submit your application materials to the District Office (EJH Beard Administration Center - 1302 1st Avenue West, Newton) or scan and email the documents to Melinda Robertson, Central Registrar (robertsonm@newtoncsd.org).  Applications will NOT be accepted at any of the four elementary schools in the district.

Forms

Certificate of Dental Screening
All 9th Grade students are required to have a dental screening.  Bring this form to your local dentist or orthodontist to fill out and sign after your appointment.  Return the signed form to Newton High School during "Back to School Days" or to the high school main office.
