Hey Cardinal Nation!

We miss you! We do. As we’ve bumped in to so many of you around town, we know you’re making the best of the situation. The Newton Community School District continues to provide grab and go meals, and groceries on the go from our West Academy. We urge all parents to continue to use the Newton Community School District website, our district and individual school Facebook pages, and emails from Principals and teachers to stay up to date on information and announcements. This installment of The Bridge contains a look back on some favorite memories from this past school year, a fun and informational video on how to keep active at home from our coaches and physical education instructors, and a collection of student art projects and crafts.

Thanks to all of you who are navigating our new normal and keeping your students engaged in learning resources.

You are the spirit behind our Red Pride!

Interim Superintendent

Red Pride Gets Creative

We missed seeing students artwork adorn our school hallways and bulletin boards and seeing students work on projects that hone their skills and hobbies. We asked parents to send in pictures of art projects and crafts they have been working on from home. Brows through this gallery of collections to see some shared work from our talented students:

Keep Active

We asked some of our physical education instructors and coaches to recommend ways we can keep active at home. Take a look at the video and see if you can spot some familiar faces.

Looking Back on the 2019-2020 School Year

With the school year ending the way it did, we asked some of our administrators to share favorite memories from this past school year from their schools.

From Jolene Comer

Emerson Hough Elementary

Jolene Comer passed along fun photos of memories including various academic and behavior celebrations, favorite book character dress up day, Cardinal Club and our Veteran’s Day parade.

From Lisa Sharp

Berg Middle School

The Berg Middle School Lip Sync Battle has become a favorite event throughout the school year. And this year’s event included special guest Carson King. Check out some of great pics from a fun night.

From Todd Schuster

Woodrow Wilson Elementary

Todd Schuster shared some of his favorite memories from the 2019-2020 school year including Caroling, Cardinal Club, One School One Bool and a visit from the Department of Education. Check out this video

From Tara Zehr

WEST Academy

Some of the memories that stick out the most from West Academy’s 2019-2020 School Year: the student academic awards and success throughout the first two trimesters of school, homeroom champions, and every student who worked hard to be recognized as the Student of the Month. Students that assisted with the food pantry and attended Career Day at DMACC. Phil Calvin from the WEST Academy was recognized with the Excellence in Educator Award
