Book Character Parade Newton Schools is excited to announce the launch of a new service that will enhance communication by allowing us to deliver important information to you via SMS text messaging.
This service is not intended to replace our existing means of communication, rather it will enhance them. The service is provided by School Messenger. Information can be found at www.SchoolMessenger.com/tm
The district will only use the service to provide information that is timely and relevant. In order to participate in the new service you must indicate your willingness to receive text messages to your phone. The process is simple and only takes a few seconds to complete.
Simply text any one of the following words to the number 68453: subscribe, optin, yes. You'll know you were successful if you receive the following reply message: You are registered to receive aprox 3 msgs/mo. Txt STOP to quit, HELP for help.
You'll want to repeat the opt-in process for any wireless numbers that you wish to include. In addition to performing the opt-in process above you'll want to insure that the district has your wireless number(s), as well as your e-mail address in Infinite Campus. If you haven't already provided that information to your school please contact them and provide them with that information.
The School Messenger service will be officially launching in approximately a month, so until then you won't receive any further text messages. Along with text messenger, the School Messenger service will also provide communication through e-mail, phone and social media applications.
Please note, although the district does not charge you for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child's school.
Dear Families,
Welcome to Berg Elementary School. We are so glad to have you as part of our learning community.
Berg Elementary serves over 480 students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through 3rd grade. We have a faculty of over 40 certified teachers and 30 classified staff who are committed to helping your child reach his/her full potential.
Our teachers implement a researched based curriculum that supports the Iowa Core. Within literacy, teachers work with students in whole group, small group, and on an individual basis in authentic reading and writing experiences. We promote a love of reading through monthly “Roam and Reads,” weekly student announcements sharing favorite books, a Book Character Parade, and by reading every day! Within math, we use the Everyday Math curriculum to give students a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. This curriculum gives students a strong foundation in math skills and concepts. Our students also attend art, music, PE, guidance, and Library/Media Center on a weekly basis.
Berg Elementary also utilizes Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to recognize and celebrate positive student behavior. Research has found that the more often positive behavior is acknowledged and rewarded, the greater chance that it will continue and influence the actions of others. We promote positive behavior by giving students “Cardinal Cash” when we see them showing our school expectations of “Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Caring.” By earning Cardinal Cash, students can earn classroom and school-wide incentives.
Finally, at Berg we realize that children are most successful when parents are involved in their child’s education. We have an active PTA and Partnering for Student Success (PSS) team that works to promote our school working hand-in-hand with parents and the community. If you are looking for ways to volunteer at Berg, please contact the office and we will be happy to connect you with opportunities. We look forward to working with you on our journey to nurture and develop life-long learners.
