Recently the 6 th Grade classes completed their DARE training and celebrated with a graduation. Thank You to Ms. B and Scott Creech who arranged for and served refreshments!
CONGRATULATIONS! Here at Aurora Heights, several talented artists chose to participate in the Reflections art program. In March at the State Awards Ceremony, these students were recognized: Larkin Christy - 1 st Place for Intermediate Literature; Lane Dethrow – 2 nd Place for Intermediate Photography; Ashlee Freese – 1 st Place for Intermediate Visual Arts; Ryanne Rausch – Honorable Mention for Intermediate Visual Arts.
Thanks again for being supportive of our efforts to raise funds with the Club Choice sale. PTA netted a profit between $10,000 and $11,000. It will be exciting to see an electronic marquee sign installed in the AH lawn!
The time is almost here for the AH PTA Carnival. Join the fun on May 14 (raindate May 21). The committee has been busy behind the scenes to make it an exciting event. Many of our teachers are offering their services as well. There are plans for inflatables, a silent auction, and of course lots of food! Watch for more details SOON!
Following the school board’s decision to reorganize the district into grade-based schools, each school’s staff had to be shuffled and reassigned. We will meet and get to know some of the other dedicated teachers in the district as they make their home at AH. Of course that also means we will be missing our super TK – 3 rd grade teachers as well as LMC and reading specialists! We wish them a smooth transition!
To see who will be at Aurora Heights next school year simply go to the school website: www.newton.k12.ia.us. Under News and Announcements you will see ”2010-2011 Elementary Staff Lists Announced” and a “click here” area. You can view the staff at each elementary school.
A couple items that were brought up at April’s PTA meeting and are likely to be discussed again are the ways PTA may change to accommodate parents with children in two schools, and wondering if it would be helpful to have S. 5 th Ave. E. along the school become a One Way especially during drop off and pick up times. You are welcome to join these conversations at the next PTA meeting slated for May 11 @ 6:30 pm in the computer lab.
