Here is a great exhibit of RED PRIDE.  The videos (above) display the emotional experience and pride displayed by our elementary students and staff as the State Tournament bound basketball team passed by Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson, and parents at the Interstate entrance.  Way to go Newton!

PARENTS WITH STUDENTS ENTERING 7th-12th GRADE IN THE 2017 - 2018 SCHOOL YEAR:

The Iowa Department of Public Health has made changes to the Iowa Immunization Law for the start of the 2017 - 2018 school year.

On the first day of school in the 2017 - 2018 school year, EVERY student entering 7th-12th grade is required to have had the meningitis vaccination in order to enter the school building.
  • Those entering 7th-11th grade will need to have one dose of the meningitis vaccination
  • Those entering 12th grade who have received one dose of the meningitis vaccination (prior to the age of 16) will be required to have a booster, or second dose of the meningitis vaccination
  • If the 12th grade student has received the first dose of the meningitis vaccination after age 16, a booster is not required
In addition:  those entering 7th grade must also have proof of having the Tdap Booster (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis/whooping cough) before school starts in August 2017, unless the student has a Certificate of Immunization Exemption.

Please submit an updated immunization record to Berg Middle School or Newton High School.  There will be no grace/extension period for the implementation of this requirement.  Students will not be allowed to start school if their immunizations are not up to date.

If you have questions, please contact the school nurses:

BMS:  Staci Geer at 641.792.7742 or geers@newton.k12.ia.us

NHS:  Clarissa Bloom at 641.792.5797 or bloomc@newton.k12.ia.us
